Associate Director

Ellen Robertson, Ph.D., MCHES®

Ellen Robertson came to SDSU after three years as a Project Director at The University of Alabama on a contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Demonstration SUPPORT Act 1003 funding. Her role included facilitating all expert workgroups (primarily composed of healthcare providers), including recruiting physician experts/champions to serve on these groups, sustaining their membership, and utilizing their expertise to develop program tools and professional education curricula. Dr. Robertson has conducted several statewide needs assessments with healthcare providers and health professionals to understand their knowledge and practice gaps related to behavioral health, specific substance use disorder treatment, and their interest in and need for professional education. Before that, Dr. Robertson spent seven years as a faculty member at Ball State University. Before joining the Ball State faculty, she was the Health Promotion Manager at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, MS. In this role, she assessed needs and planned, implemented, and evaluated evidence-based programs and services aimed at the health improvement and disease prevention of active duty members and their families.

Dr. Robertson is Associate Director at the SDSU Institute for Public Health (IPH) and Associate Director of Community Engagement at Scripps Research. With extensive experience in program management, budgetary oversight, outreach and engagement, and strategic planning, she has a proven track record of assessing needs and implementing learning opportunities that align with the standards of multiple professions. As the Associate Director of the IPH, Dr. Robertson oversees collaborative public health research and service projects with community-based and governmental agencies in California. In her role as the Associate Director of Community Engagement at Scripps Research, she collaborates with researchers to emphasize the importance and implementation of community engagement in all research projects.
