Submit an Internship Opportunity

The Institute for Public Health assists local public health agencies by facilitating collaboration between students at the Graduate School of Public Health at SDSU and staff at organizations engaged in public health activities. Our website provides a place for students and agency staff to begin the student internship placement process.

If you work in a local public health agency and can provide an internship opportunity to one or more SDSU Graduate School of Public Health students, please complete an internship opportunity form. Note that many students require field practice credit to graduate and would be willing to gain valuable experience without monetary compensation.

Submit an Internship Opportunity

After submitting the internship opportunity form, your position will be posted both on this website and on the Graduate School of Public Health listserv. Contact information for the position must be included and will be posted for public viewing. Students will contact your organization directly to inquire about or apply for the position.

Please also note the following guidelines:

Field practice hour equivalencies: GSPH students enrolling in field practice for credit are expected to fulfill the equivalent of 60 hours of work per unit. Increments of 3 units (most typical) or 6 units are awarded for field practice academic credit. A 3-unit, one semester field practice (PH650) can sometimes also be followed in a later semester by another 3-unit advanced field practice (PH750).

Compensation: Although not a requirement, monetary compensation for well-qualified graduate students engaged in field placement experiences is the norm even if the student is also receiving academic credit.

Other expectations: For field experience to qualify for academic credit, the field site and preceptor match and nature of the experience proposed must be pre-approved by the student's academic advisor; the student must demonstrate proof of liability insurance coverage; and the student and field preceptor should expect to be asked to submit a brief report with evaluation of the experience.

If you have questions or comments about student internship placements please do not hesitate to contact us anytime.
